Indonesia has been begging with China to stop a dramatic rise in maritime smuggling after Prime Minister Tony Abbot reported a 50% spike in maritime smuggling.
The two countries are also working together on the controversial deal, which opponents fear might allow Indonesia to use its naval force to stop illegal fishing in a fight over future resource revenues.Indonesia is a member of the Asia-Pacific Maritime Security Forum (AMSF), which met in Singapore on Tuesday to discuss the accord.The new maritime security agreement has garnered interest from 1,600 shipping companies in total.
